Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

Artificial Sweeteners

August 30th 2008 14:43

Diet sodas and many ‘sugar free’ drinks and foods are very popular but are they healthy? The answer is NO! Real sugar is not the problem when it comes to making people fat. It is in fact the over eating of unhealthy foods that adds weight. Sugar is fine to eat when it is eaten in moderation.

The sweeteners in diet sodas and sugar free foods usually contain Aspartame. This is a dangerous substance! Once it heats to 86 degrees Aspartame turns into formaldehyde… you know the stuff you get embalmed with after you die. Then it coverts to formic acid (the poisonous venom in fire ants)- this causes metabolic acidosis.

Methanol toxicity can be fatal but the more common medical conditions that arise from use of these diet and sugar free drinks/foods are multiple sclerosis symptoms and systemic lupus symptoms.

Here are some things to look forward to for diet soda drinkers: tinnitus, shooting pains, fibromyalgia, numbness, dizziness, headaches, memory loss, blurred visions and slurred speech and so many more side effects. Sugar is not your enemy, excessive eating and drinking of certain consumables are.

Although I do agree that sugar in moderation is not the cause of fat, the urban legend about Aspartame has been debunked see SNOPES. As I suffer from Fibromyalgia I have spent years researching every little thing about it. I'm not a diet soda drinking person either. I can't bear the taste.

I do however think that filling your body with artificial sweeteners is not healthy. Drink water folks, it's free and good for you and indulge occasionally in a sugary soft drink as a treat.

Everything in moderation and eat and drink more that is good for you than bad.

Thanks for commenting Cheryl

Well, I will personally choose to take the word of my doctor and his colleagues over a website that delivers 'true and false' assumption based on opinions. I guess each person will have to decide what to believe on this subject since there is so much truth and untruth floating around about it.

I did read what they said on Snopes however and saw that brain tumors were debunked which I am not arguing, also debunked was a outbreak of MS... Seeing as how Aspartame doesn't cause MS but does mimic the symptoms they are not exactly lying but misrepresenting. The scientists and random individuals can give as many statements as they wish but again, I would rather trust the doctors that I know on this one.

The well known dangers/affects that have been substantiated associated with Aspartame are:

seizures
changes in brain chemistry
neurological changes
and behavioral symptoms

Not to mention it tastes funny and the after-taste is really nasty. Thanks for explaining why Aspartame isn't good, Manda. I always knew it, but now I know why!
