Calcium Supplements

Many people, especially women feel the need to take extra calcium supplements to fight against osteoporosis and other serious health conditions. But, research suggests that there are some bad supplements out there and most people do not recognize the good from the bad.
1. Read the bottle of the calcium supplements and if it contains “natural sources” of calcium (bone meal, oyster shell, etc) they will most likely contain harmful levels of lead, and other contaminating factors.
2. Do not take calcium supplements if you are already taking osteoporosis medication.
3. Don’t take your calcium supplement with your meals if they are high in wheat fiber, as it will stop the absorption of the calcium.
4. Do not take too much vitamin D as it will offset what the calcium is supposed to do for you. Excess vitamin D can make your bones brittle.
5. Do not overdose yourself on calcium. The highest amount you should intake a day is around 2500 milligrams.
