Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

Celiac Disease

December 2nd 2006 23:11
Some people may not have heard of this and other are unfortunate enough to know it very well. This is a condition that drains you of the ability to function without exhaustion, eat with a hearty appetite and one of the worst symptoms include anemia. Basically, you are too tired to do anything, never hungry and feel as though you are dragging through life.

Researchers used to ponder the mysterious disease but that is no longer the case. Unlike other health problem it is not caused by what one would think… the signs point to stress or depression… but couldn’t be further from the truth. It is actually developed because of the body’s inability to endure gluten. Gluten is the protein that is present in oats and grains.

There are few common causes of this disease: underlying problems with your immune system, studies show it is genetic, reoccurring problems with the small intestine.

Because cancer seems common with individuals who have this disorder, you should take this matter very seriously.

Luckily, there is hope. With a proper diet it can be controlled.

Avoid
•Breads
•Canned or packaged soups
•Cereals (bran, wheat, whole grains)
•Pasta
•Cheese spreads
•Processed meat
•Malts

Consume all you want
•Milk/dairy
•Nuts
•Fresh meats
•Fresh soups
•Fruits
•Veggies
•Corn cereals
•Potatoes
•Rice
•Desserts are fine as long as you use gluten free ingredients (especially with flour )
•Beverages are fine (except those containing malt)
•You can continue eating spices: salt, pepper, garlic, etc.

Be healthy!!!

Great post!

I didn't know about celiac disease and it sounds really interesting.

No wonder Lilla was never a fan to bread. I must remind myself about not having them if I have similar symtoms hitting me (which happens occationally)

It was an eye opener for me as well. When we naturally stay away from things sometimes it is our bodies that are aware of the dangers... Same thing when we crave certain foods... again our bodies are choosing what nutrients it needs.

Hi. I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to educate people about celiac. I was currently tested last week yet to see how bad my intestines were from the disease, and have yet to get my results back. You see, when i was told i had it, i wasnt educated as to how i can control most of the symptoms. I actually have the disease and didn't know it caused anemia. Thank you for not sugar coating the truth, because it sucks just as much as you said i appreciate it.

You are very welcome! I am happy to help, this is why I dedicate a large portion of my work to raising awareness. It is for people like you that have had a great weight laid on their shoulders with no way to get out from under it. Take care and I wish you luck!
