Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

Getting Your Garden Ready for Winter

November 18th 2011 16:54

If you live in a cold area, with lots of snow and ice decorating the winter months, your garden needs a little special attention.

Gladiolus and other bulb flowers should be allowed to finish wilting before you bring the bulbs indoors for the winter. This allows the bulbs to gather the maximum nutrients for the next year. If you leave them outside, make sure you let them finish wilting, too. There is plenty of time to clip them off after the snow melts and spring draws near.

Small trees can be covered with black plastic for extra protection. A little straw around the bottom of the tree may help to prevent the trunk or even the roots from freezing.
