Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

Nettles!

May 10th 2008 05:20
Nettles, also known as stinging nettles have been used in first aid for centuries. They help slow the bleeding of deep wounds and puncture marks. But, there is one way to determine if you indeed have the real McCoy so to speak. The reason they are called ‘stinging’ nettles is because they have tiny yet spiky fibers which release an acid to send a burning sensation where you have been pricked. But that is not all folks; it also is widely used as a blood purifier and detoxifier of the body.

Seems funny that something so irritating can be helpful, doesn't it? But thanks for the heads up!

Yes it does. It is actually the milk inside the plant that stops the bleeding. Say you get a terrible bloody nose. By breaking open the stalk and lightly coating your tissue in the milk and placing up your nose the bleeding will stop.

I also know that warriors when they went off to battle in ancient times would rub the plant on them and allow the acidic hairs and spikey leaves to really spread that 'heated' acid into their flesh to keep warm.

Ouch! That sounds effective, but unpleasant. I think I'll keep a jacket handy instead! lol
