Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

Planting a Medicinal Garden: Horehound

June 29th 2008 16:01
Horehound is something I use to make cough drops and cough syrups. All natural medicines are so much better as they contain no preservatives and are freshly made. It is absolutely scary how many people, especially children, die from too much over the counter medicine. If more people took the time to make simple remedies their families would be a lot safer.

Horehound is a natural expectorant which means that it loosens thick phlegm from the chest and airways. It is rich in vitamins A, E, C, and F as well as containing B-complex, iron, and potassium.

But there are certain restrictions on it for instance people shouldn’t take it if they are already using prescriptions or OTC medicines. It is important to research the use of all herbs before using them as they are plants and allergic reactions could occur as well as interactions due to their medicinal qualities.
