Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

Non- Toxic Plants (edible Part III)

November 3rd 2006 22:42

Yet another blog on non-poisonous plants that you can plant in your yard. If you have not yet read the first and second pieces to this set of blogs I suggest you do as there is important information on this subject.

• Sheppard’s Purse-Other names include lady’s slipper and lady’s purse. Parts of this plant can be used as steamed greens and substitutes for both pepper and ginger.
• Spearmint-This is a pleasant plant to have on your property or any garden. It also has a tendency to repel ants form invading your home.
• Storksbill-Another common name is filaree and is used in cooking. Many people confuse this plant with poison hemlock which is a hairless plant so it is important to know your plants and all the distinct features before using them in your cooking. The stems and leaves form the Storksbill are used in soups and served like spinach.
• Oxalis-another common name is Shamrock and Sour grass. These have been used in salads and as a raw snack.
• Eucalyptus-This tree can be grown anywhere with the right care. The best use for this plant is tea. It can be brewed by using the leaves and can help your symptoms if you have cold, flu or intense allergies.

Manda,

Love some of the names you use. Next time I need to buy a new purse I'll stop by your garden.

I'm really glad you distinguish between poisonous and non-poisonous.

Next time you're having a 'from the garden' party do you mind if I bring Homer along as my official taster. He seems to have a very sensitive tongue and likes licking things, you may need to keep an eye on some of your female guests.

Spearmint I can taste already and anything with rose in it has me.

The thought of a pelican bringing home the bacon has appeal, but I can't say there are many pelicans in my life although I do have a distant acquaintance with some of them.

Keep visiting "food, and natural product" blogs and after a while you, in turn may get some response, but in the world of bloggers, it's every man for himself.

I seem to be copping some flack about not swearing and being a hard taskmaster, oh, dear, but I can live with that. I don't like smoking either and I feel sure there is absolutely no need for me to say anything further on that, especially on your site.

It never ceases to amaze me how many will protest about environmental pollution, forgetting just how much they are prepared to pollute themselves.

You're doing some good work, patience and craft will get you a little further along the way.

Luv ya and leave ya, musn't be too propa,

HI Katyzzz,
I'm glad you liked the piece. I love gardens and herbs and it is funny how many people have no idea what's growing in their backyards. So many children (mostly babies and toddlers) get poisoned every year from putting plants in their mouths and the parents never seem to learn.... I was hoping to insert some knowledge in their lives for future reference.

That was Hilarious about Homer.... he is delightfully unique and has a definite way with words! I was laughing my butt off!!! LOL (still am)

You always deliver thought provoking points and valid issues. I am happy you have come back to see me. Thanks a bunch and I'll see ya soon.

Manda,

Kids and avoiding toxins in the garden or some such should attract a lot of interest, there are lots of young mums out there very interested in the welfare of their children.

Make it a good heading and spell it out related specifically to that point, which hadn't actually occurred to me.

I do know that oleanda's are poisonous, which no-one knew at first.

One is always cautious with one's chidren, or, at least I was, so a little information, targetted specifically in that way should attract some votes. You may want to link some websites to your blog to make it easy for people to click and get the info they need, often presented in ways we do not have easy access to.

But you'll need to form your own opinions about the sites before referring others to them.

There may be some good pictures there which tend to make things a little easier.

Thanks for the advice Katyzzz. I appreciate it !

From now on I will add more links to my blogs to help further the points I am trying to make. I thought they were only relevant in article writing but I guess they are just as, if not more, important in blogs.
Thanks.

Manda,

You're welcome,

Hope my advice reaps dividends.

It seems one has to be patient on Orble, but they did warn me that it can take some time to attract an audience, but I feel one thing is for sure, if you just sit and wait for it to happen, unless one is extraordinarily lucky, it won't

katyzzz!
