Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

The Difference Between Yarrow and Queen Anne’s Lace

August 5th 2010 19:11

Yarrow and Queen Anne’s lace are often confused with each other. Both are used medicinally but for different reasons. It is imperative that you not mix them up when making remedies!

There are distinctions between them so that you can easily tell which is which.

The flower clusters on Queen Anne’s Lace are different from yarrow. They are both white but if you look very carefully into the center of the clusters you can see that Queen Anne’s lace has a tiny purplish red flower. It may be hard to see but it will be there if the herb is QAL.
The roots of yarrow are long and abundant while QAL is one main root with smaller hair like roots off shooting from it. The root itself will smell like a carrot.
The leaves are think and full on a healthy Yarrow plant while the Queen Anne’s lace is one stem with a few leaves.
