Thyroid and Weight Gain

June 23rd 2007 23:36
I have explained before the importance of maintaining a healthy thyroid but for those that missed it, I am going to do another post about this issue. The thyroid is the center of hormone release and metabolism. This small area of the body can make you lose or gain weight.

If your thyroid is sluggish and not performing optimally, you can gain weight and fast… which is called hypothyroidism. If it is over working you can lose weight so much that your over all health can be seriously affected… this is called hyperthyroidism. The thyroid can be controlled usually by iodine intake. Kelp is a known element which has a lot of iodine in it. However, if you have an over functioning thyroid you will need to stay away from this supplement/food. There is much information about the thyroid and a weight loss cure.

Why can't we just take a pill and be done with it?

We demand instant gratification, critical thinking about this matter is to much like work.

hi Manda,

This is a good post in general about how Thyroid works. Interesting enough to know the it by birds-eye-view.

Raven,

You have no idea how thyroid problem can cause. My mom currently suffers Hyperthyroidism and this has recently caused her hormone readings to drop like stone. Her hearts still pounds like as if she weighs 300 pounds and she is loosing weight like a rocket.

Although medication has stabalised her thyroid condition, however there are a lot of post-issues when these things happen to you... it can be a very long way to regain health, whatever thyroid condition you suffer.

Motto of the story, stay healthy and be prepared that such thing can happen to you any place, any time.

Have a blessed week ahead.

Jessicca
