Medicinal Nature - Manda Spring

Using Native American Herbs

March 7th 2009 00:54

The Native Americans used herbs to combat sickness, infection, pain and disease. But recently I was asked, “What makes an herb a Native American herb?” So, I figured that I would write a post explaining this concept. First, herbs are herbs. The reason some herbs are considered Native American herbs is because the Native peoples used them in many ways as primary herbal ingredients for remedies.

Using Native American Herbs to Optimize Health is a wonderful article explaining which herbs were used by the vast majority of Native Americans and what each one did to contribute to the healing. These specific herbs have all been widely used for centuries and have been proven effective within the tribes.
