Wild Plants with Medicinal Qualities: Part 1
December 7th 2007 05:09
We all see plants growing wildly as we drive by or maybe if you’re like me and have acres of countryside as your yard you may find plants growing wildly all around you. If so, you’d be surprised if you knew what some of them could do for your health. This series can help you identify the plant and the medicinal quality that it provides.
Dandelion, we all know this ‘weed’ that grows uncontrollably. But did you know that this plant belongs to the sunflower family? The younger leaves are great in salads or as an alternative for lettuce on sandwiches. These greens are much better then lettuce and contains a mass of health benefits. The older leaves tend to be more bitter and are best used in the cooked form, kind of like spinach. They are high in vitamin A, calcium and potassium. One of the best uses is for liver problems.
